Nebraska’s New Hacker-Free License Plate!
Nebraska officials scrambled Friday to explain how thousands of malicious hackers from CollegeHumor.com improperly influenced voting in the official State of Nebraska license plate poll. State Motor Vehicles Director Beverly Neth said that it was her understanding that if you posted a link on a website in Nebraska, that meant only Nebraskans could click on it. “I find this shocking and not the least bit funny,” she said at a press conference last Friday. “I feel violated. Let’s say you are not from Nebraska, but you vote in a poll to select a Nebraska license plate anyway? I just don’t understand that kind of behavior. It must be drug-related.”
Nebraska state officials are worried about promiscuous clicking on links by nonresidents. Said one official late Friday, “These are basically people who are making fun of our license plates. Not only that, they have no respect for the grandeur that is Chimney Rock. If something isn’t done, the next time they could be making fun of Cornhusker football.”
“Let me get this straight,” said Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, his jowls trembling at the thought, “does this mean that a Muslim could get on the Internet in, say, Iran and vote for the meadowlark plate? Let me assure the good people of Nebraska that this latest license plate design is hacker-free and terror-free.”
City and state officials are now looking into the possibility that hackers from the dark side of the Internet at CollegeHumor.com may have influenced the recent election for Mayor in Omaha. “You don’t suppose they would elect Jim Suttle for mayor just to make us look silly, do you?” asked one official, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of looking silly.
